I would like to welcome you to the 2016-2017 season of the Pinnacle Study Club of Tampa Bay. Indeed, we have enjoyed tremendous success since 1989 in our ongoing pursuit of learning through this special venue. In keeping with our mission statement of being “dedicated to providing dental professionals with a continuing education experience that will foster interaction among colleagues, improve clinical skills and total treatment planning, and increase knowledge through quality education,” we are proud to present what should be another outstanding year of education.
This year we are celebrating our 27th year and, as you will see, we will be showcasing a series of evening sessions and two full day sessions that will focus on a combination of both clinical and practice management issues.
Our unofficial Kick Off of the year will be on Saturday, August 27 at which time we will feature Sundeep Rawal, DMD, an outstanding Prosthodontist from Melbourne, Florida, who will spend 4 hours with us as he addresses the topic of “The All-on-4 Treatment Concepts: Utilizing Current Innovations to Deliver Efficient Therapy.” This session will emphasize the prosthetic phase of immediate full arch reconstruction, and I know will be a very stimulating presentation as I personally know this young clinician and have heard him speak before.
Our official Kick Off session will be on October 12 at which time Michael R. Ragan, DMD, JD will be presenting on “Risk Management, Ethical Issues, Cyber Threats, and Managing Social Media.” Dr. Ragan has presented before, and those of you that have heard him will know that he always comes prepared with an incredible amount of material that is of importance to us–especially from a legal perspective. Next, on November 29 we will welcome one of our own, Emanuel Kontos, DMD for a 2 hour session on the “Kois Risk Assessment Protocol.” Whether or not any of you have been to any of Dr. Kois’ lectures and/or courses is not important as a prerequisite for this presentation. I say this with conviction because the material that will be presented will address specific health and medical questions that are part of John Kois’ digital health questionnaire that is given to all patients. There is a science basis for each of these questions, and they will be addressed during that evening session. We will then close out the calendar year with an outstanding full day presentation by David Schwab, PhD for you and your staff. His topic is “How to Grow Your Practice in an Uncertain Economy.” This also will be a tremendous session that David is well suited for. Indeed, his vast experience in practice management lends itself incredibly well to being able to share with us a number of great ideas and concepts that we can immediately incorporate into our respective practices.
To start the New Year on January 17, we will have an evening “Young Guns” session. This will require member participation as we have done in the past and we look forward to a number of great clinical presentations. Next, on March 3, we will have a full day session for doctors and staff given by Christopher Ramsey, DMD, a very well established restorative based dentist from Jupiter, FL. His topic is “Your Sixth Sense: Understanding the Art of Persuasion, Body Language, and Human Decision Making for Improved Treatment Acceptance.” I know you will thoroughly enjoy this very animated and educational session in that I got a good glimpse of what Chris will be sharing with us from the recent Seattle Study Club Symposium. We will then have an evening session on March 22 of “Diagnostics and Treatment Planning” that will be given by members of our group. Next, on April 12 there will be another “Diagnostics and Treatment Planning” session that will be given by the doctors at Coastal Jaw Surgery. Finally on May 10, our annual end of the year “Complications and Diagnostics” evening presentation will be given by all of our members.
On a separate but related note: we will once again have our Dental Hygiene Study Club. In summary, our Pinnacle Study Club of Tampa Bay offers the following unique features:
- Members who are dedicated to ongoing education to improve comprehensive patient care through interdisciplinary diagnosis and treatment planning
- The ability to mastermind among an elite group of practitioners that will provide a forum for research, training, and camaraderie

We are very excited about our 2016-2017 season and look forward to seeing all of you at our unofficial kick off meeting on August 27, 2016 at the Pikos Institute.
Warmest personal regards,
Michael A. Pikos, DDS Director
