The Pinnacle Study Club of Tampa Bay was founded by Dr. Michael A. Pikos to foster continuing education and professional camaraderie among Tampa Bay area clinicians. Since then, the club not only grown in membership, but also in the breadth of topics discussed and expertise shared. We hold regular meetings in which members benefit from the extensive knowledge of our presenters as well as provide a friendly, professional atmosphere for learning. Additionally, The Pinnacle Study Club of Tampa provides its members opportunity for socialization and networking with colleagues from around the Bay area.


The Pinnacle Study Club of Tampa Bay is dedicated to providing dental professionals with a continuing education experience that will foster interaction among colleagues and improve abilities in clinical skills and total comprehensive treatment planning. It is also committed to increase knowledge through quality education, review of current research and literature, and demonstration of surgical and clinical techniques and applications. With dedication and commitment, our members incorporate the latest clinical based technology, techniques, and education to improve practice growth, practice excellence, and provide our patients with the pinnacle of comprehensive dental treatment.


Dr. Michael A. Pikos, Founder

Dr. Michael A. Pikos originally hails from Campbell, Ohio. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from The University of Ohio and graduated with honors from the Ohio State University College of Dentistry. Dr. Pikos interned at Miami Valley Hospital and completed residency training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, Montefiore Hospital.

Dr. Pikos founded Coastal Jaw Surgery in 1983 and is the senior member of a four surgeon practice. He has extensive experience in implant surgery, having placed more than 18,000 implants and having performed thousands of hard and soft tissue grafting procedures. He emphasizes interactive CT technology along with foundational principles of prosthetics and biomechanics that dictate the ultimate success of comprehensive implant rehabilitation. Since 1990, he devoted his practice exclusively to implant dentistry.

Dr. Pikos is Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Dr. Pikos is the recipient of the 2006 Aaron Gershkoff Memorial Award from the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

Dr. Pikos is an Adjunct Assistant Professor, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine and a Courtesy Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Periodontology and Department of Prosthodontics at the University of Florida College of Dentistry. Dr. Pikos serves on the Editorial Board of several industry journals including Implant Dentistry, Case Reports in Dentistry, and the Journal of Implant and Advanced Clinical Dentistry. Dr. Pikos is the Scientific Advisor on Implants for the Kois Center.

As an oral maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Pikos is one of the first clinicians to recognize the relevance of Cone Beam and interactive computed tomography (CT) technology for comprehensive diagnosis and treatment planning along with its implementation for implant based oral rehabilitation. This technology is a cornerstone of Dr. Pikos’ practice and the instruction delivered at Pikos Institute.

In addition, Dr. Pikos has extensive experience in implant surgery and hard and soft tissue grafting procedures and emphasizes interactive CT technology along with foundational principles of prosthetics and biomechanics that dictate the ultimate success of comprehensive implant rehabilitation.

Dr. Pikos is a well-published author and has lectured extensively in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Dr. Pikos is an active member and frequent lecturer for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Academy of Periodontics, the Academy of Osseointegration, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and the International Congress of Implantology.

Dr. Pikos is founder and CEO of the Pikos Institute. Since 1990 he has been teaching advanced bone and soft tissue grafting courses with alumni that now number more than 2700 from all 50 states and 32 countries. Dr. Pikos maintains a private practice which is limited exclusively to implant surgery in Palm Harbor, Florida.

Dr. G. Thomas Peak, III

Dr. G. Thomas Peak III is a native of Charleston, West Virginia. He is a graduate of Concord College in Athens, West Virginia and West Virginia University School of Dentistry.
Dr. Peak completed his internship at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital and his comprehensive dentistry residency at the National Naval Dental Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed his three-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia.

A Commander of the United States Navy Dental Corps, Dr. Peak joined Coastal Jaw Surgery in 1994 from the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida where he was the Department Head in Dental and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He was also the Department Head at the Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, involving training responsibilities for both military and civilian Oral & Maxillofacial and Otolaryngology residents.

Dr. Peak has extensive experience in management of the medically compromised patient in the hospital arena and in management of maxillofacial trauma, dentofacial pathology, head and neck infection, maxillofacial reconstruction, orthognathic surgery, dental implants/pre-prosthetic surgery, TMJ disorders and dentoalveolar surgery.

Dr. G. Thomas Peak, III

Dr. Jose F. Lazaro

Dr. José F. Lázaro was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He attended Temple University and Sacred Heart for his undergraduate studies and received his doctorate degree as an honor student at University of Puerto Rico, Medical Science Campus.

Dr. Lázaro has been active in private practice and academia for over 23 years. He has also served as chairman of the Oral and Maxillofacial Training Program of the University of Puerto Rico, School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Lázaro practices a full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with emphasis in implants and bone grafting. Dr. Lazaro is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Diplomate of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Kenneth L. Anderson

Dr. Kenneth L. Anderson, III was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and graduated magna cum laude with his bachelor’s degree in Biology and minor in Chemistry from Bemidji State University in 2003. He was accepted into University of Minnesota School of Dentistry’s highly sought after early admission program and graduated in 2007. He then was accepted into Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at University of Illinois at Chicago and finished his residency training in New York at Brookdale University Hospital in 2012. In 2017, Dr. Anderson moved to Florida and joined Coastal Jaw Surgery as an associate surgeon.

Dr. Anderson practices full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery with emphasis on dental alveolar surgery, implants, hard and soft tissue grafting, general anesthesia, facial trauma, cleft palate, and orthognathic surgery. Dr. Anderson focuses much of his time expanding his knowledge at continuing education events throughout the country. Dr. Anderson has attended Dr. Arnett’s course for orthognathic surgery and Dr. Bedrossian’s zygomatic implant training courses. He works closely with various other medical and dental specialties including dentists, ENT, and sleep specialists. Dr. Anderson has been elected to Vice-Chair and Chairman at his local hospital to represent the department of dentistry, a member of the cleft palate team, and visiting faculty for dental assisting program. When Dr. Anderson is not operating he enjoys spending time with his family and 2 year old son named Cade.
